  1. Awesome presentation! I think it is really neat that you were able to target three areas in Mike's situation and pursue different strategies for helping him improve. I really like the journal idea! Having a place for him to write down how he felt during certain situations sounds like it was really beneficial in understanding his struggles and frustrations. I think many of my students could benefit from this. So many times it is hard for them to express what they are feeling in words out loud to a teacher, but given the time to write it down may prove to be the best outlet for them to really tell you what is going on inside their heads and hearts.

  2. Hey Anna,

    I think that the timer part of your strategy was a great idea. I have used things like that in my class with students who have trouble focusing (except I had them to set a goal while looking at the clock for the next 10 minutes) and would come back to see if they had met their goal. Something I said was that if they didn't meet their goal, they could readjust later and try again. This goal readjusting might have helped mike not to become as frustrated when he didn't complete things on time, however when I did this it was usually during independent reading when it didn't really matter how far students got, whereas you can't really do that as much with every subject of the day.

    I also really liked how you altered the notebook aspect of the plan when he became frustrated with writing. If the purpose was to give him an outlet that prevented him from getting angry, it made since to let him switch to a different outlet that worked for him. This showed flexibility and commitment to helping Mike.

    Overall, I think you did a great job with thinking through different ways Mike needed to be helped, and with coming up with effective strategies that seemed to be very effective. Great job! :)
